WRMP
The WRMP works in collaboration with statewide and regional monitoring efforts and workgroups, including those highlighted below. This coordination is in addition to our WRMP partners and collaborators working on the data collection for the Program.
Statewide Monitoring Programs
-
- California Estuary Marine Protected Area (EMPA) Monitoring Program monitors California estuaries within MPAs with a standard, comprehensive function-based assessment framework to determine their health.
- Environmental Protection Agency National Wetland Condition Assessment (NWCA) surveys the chemical, physical, and biological properties of the nation’s wetlands with commonly used and widely accepted indicators.
Statewide Monitoring Workgroups
-
- California Wetland Monitoring Workgroup (CWMW) coordinates among California agencies, Tribes, NGOs, and Water Quality Monitoring Council workgroups to improve wetland and riparian monitoring.
- California Estuarine Monitoring Workgroup (CEMW) focuses on improving estuary monitoring and enhancing coordination with local communities, Tribal Nations, Indigenous groups, and the public.
Local Monitoring Efforts
Locally, the WRMP also works alongside several monitoring efforts across the Estuary that differ in geographic scope, focus, or definitions. These efforts join the WRMP in ultimately asking, “How is the Estuary doing; how can we protect and improve ecological conditions and functions and human benefits; and are our protections and improvements working?” The WRMP has aligned with other regional monitoring programs, with the goal of WRMP work being complementary and not duplicative to other efforts.
